Chinchillas can be the most fantastic pets. As many of you already know, they are the most amazing creatures and very, very intelligent.
If you haven't already got a chinchilla, but are thinking of getting one, please, please think very carefully before you decide.
Looking after your pet chinchilla is a big responsibility.

Chinchillas need lots of care and attention and you need to know what to do or you could do lots of harm without meaning to. For example, they need to keep to a special diet and have plenty of exercise. If you let them run around, you need to chin proof the area because they will chew almost anything, including paint work, furniture, even electric wires etc. As well as spoiling these things, paint, plastic, varnish etc is poisonous and will harm your pet. Remember too, that they can live for many years, so it is unfair to buy a chinchilla and then find after a couple of years, you do not have the time for it.
