Cheeky Chinchillas - Wild Chinchillas, Chile

Volunteers are needed to help in Chile

I received the following email from Deborah Cox, who has worked as a Volunteer in Chile

Deborah: 'I worked there earlier in the year (2008), and am in constanct contact with Amy Deane who runs the project. Our little guys are now listed as Critically Endangered, according to the IUCN website and I know that whilst funding is useful, volunteers are key to getting vegetation planted to stop chinchillas becoming extinct in the wild.

Anyone who is vsiting Chile is welcome to stay a couple of days, months, or longer. Facilities are basic, but there is no charge to volunteer, other than costs of food approx 20 per month. The location is amazing! According to the IUCN, there are around 42 colonies left in the wild and their numbers are decreasing, they are only found in the Illapel region of Chile. It is a fantastic experience, worthwhile and much can be learnt about chinchillas and their habits etc. If you have any further questions, I am happy to answer them, as is Amy in Chile.'
